Air conditioning repair
Not cooling, short-cycling, tripping, icing, draining onto a ceiling. Diagnosed by measurement, then priced in writing before anything is replaced.
StoneCraft is an air conditioning, heating and ventilation contractor in Clovis, working on houses and on commercial buildings. The valley puts more running hours on equipment than almost anywhere else in California, and everything we do is shaped by that one fact.
Not cooling, short-cycling, tripping, icing, draining onto a ceiling. Diagnosed by measurement, then priced in writing before anything is replaced.
Furnaces and heat pumps that will not light, will not stay lit, or heat the house unevenly. Combustion and venting checked as part of the job.
Condensers, air handlers, furnaces, heat pumps and packaged rooftop units. Sized on a load calculation for this climate, not on the old nameplate.
Intervals set by how hard a unit actually works, with the readings written down so this year can be compared with last year.
Agricultural dust, cottonwood and general valley grit blanket a condenser coil faster here than most places. A blocked coil is the most common reason a healthy system underperforms.
Leak testing, sealing, replacing crushed or undersized runs, adding returns. Measured before and measured after, so the change is a number.
Multiple units, multiple sites, one schedule and one equipment register that stays with the building.
Thermostats and zoning set up so the people using the building can operate them without calling anyone.
Filters matched to what the blower can actually move, and outside air brought in deliberately rather than through whatever gaps exist.
Roughly half the week is residential and roughly half is commercial. Neither is filler. They are scheduled differently, documented differently, and quoted differently.
Across Clovis, north-east Fresno, Sanger and the towns down Highway 99. Most of this housing stock runs a split system that carries the whole summer, and the problems we see are the problems of long running hours: worn capacitors and contactors, coils that stopped breathing two seasons ago, ductwork in a 140-degree attic that has gone brittle, and systems that were oversized when they were fitted and now short-cycle.
Along Shaw and Herndon, through the Clovis industrial park and out into the packing and cold-side buildings that the valley economy runs on. Rooftop packaged units in rows, split systems per tenancy, make-up air for kitchens and workshops, and mechanical rooms nobody has documented since the building was finished.
A system in a mild coastal climate and the identical system in Clovis are the same age on paper and nothing like the same age in reality. Ours has run through longer seasons, at higher outdoor temperatures, against dustier coils, for far more hours per year.
That has consequences all the way down. Service intervals that are adequate elsewhere are not adequate here. Parts that are fine elsewhere fail here. A "10-year system" is a number from somewhere else. And an undersized service budget on a commercial building in this valley catches up with the owner at the worst possible moment — the first genuinely hot week.
We have written the whole argument out, with what we do about it on a house and on a building.
Diagnostic first. Then you see what we found and what the fix costs, in writing. Then you decide. Nothing billable past the diagnostic happens before that, on a house or on a building.
Where there is more than one sensible option we give you all of them, including the cheap one, and we tell you which we would choose and why — including where the cheap one is genuinely the right answer.
You will not find prices, savings percentages or payback periods here. Equipment cost, access, refrigerant and what is behind the wall vary too much between one building on Shaw Avenue and the next. A figure published on a website is a guess dressed up as information. Ask us about your job and you get a real one.
Tell us the building, the symptom and how urgent it is. You get a real arrival window in that conversation.
Airflow, static pressure, refrigerant state, electrical draw, combustion where it applies. Photographs of anything we say is wrong.
Written, itemised, with the options laid out. This is the decision point, and nothing past the diagnostic is billed before it.
Then we show you the readings afterwards, clean up, and leave the paperwork — including whatever a property manager will need.
We are on West Shaw Avenue. Most of the service area is a short run from there; the further towns we take on scheduled work rather than same-day emergencies, and we will tell you which is which on the phone.

Because it runs for more hours. A cooling season in the central San Joaquin Valley is long and it is hot, so a system here accumulates far more running hours per year than the same system installed on the coast. Wear is a function of hours, not of calendar years, which is why we talk about service intervals in terms of how hard a system works rather than how old it is.
Both, in roughly equal measure. Houses and small apartment buildings on one side; offices, retail, warehousing, packing and light industrial on the other. The commercial side of the valley runs its equipment even harder than the residential side, so the two inform each other.
More often than the generic advice, and the interval depends on the unit rather than on the calendar. A rooftop unit over a kitchen, a condenser sitting in an agricultural dust plume and a condenser in a shaded suburban side yard are three different service intervals. We set the interval from what the unit actually does.
Yes, in writing, after the diagnostic and before anything billable begins. Where a repair is borderline against a replacement you get both numbers and the reasoning behind our recommendation.
No. Where a cheaper part exists and we think it will not survive a valley summer, we say so and quote the one we would actually fit. If you want the cheaper option anyway, that is your call and we will fit it, but you will hear our view first.
Yes. We keep an equipment register per site — what each unit is, where it is, its age and condition, and what was done to it and when. It belongs to the building, so it survives a change of managing agent.
House or commercial site, urgent or planned. One call and you will know what is likely, what confirming it takes, and when we can be there.
